What is quinoa? Nutritional properties

Quinoa_presentation

Today I do not bring you a recipe as such. Today I wanted to tell you about a product that is becoming very fashionable, which is called quinoa. And soon we will publish recipes with this pseudocereals so that you can prepare it at home and taste it, and above all, share your impressions with us and the rest of the followers.

Quinoa is not a cereal, but it is included in this food group due to its high content of carbohydrates, specifically in starch. Its origin is in Latin America, fundamentally in Bolivia and Peru, which are the main producers worldwide.

The interesting thing about quinoa is its nutritional richness and balance between proteins, fats and carbohydrates. And it is that for example, it has twice the protein than traditional cereals and its low and highly healthy fats. It is an ideal alternative to rice and pasta. It is rich in vitamin B, C, E, thiamine, rivoflavin, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium among others.

It is highly versatile because we can prepare delicious starters, first courses, main courses and even desserts. And, fortunately, we can already find it in large supermarkets (generally in the organic and diet food area) and also in any herbalist.

Quinoa has been preserved and cultivated in a cuisine for generations. Today it is a fundamental food to guarantee food and nutritional security in many Latin American countries. So much so that the United Nations itself designated February 20, 2013 as the International Year of Quinoa. So do you dare to join us with the next quinoa recipes?
