In a few weeks it will be Carnival, and fried sweets are typical of this period, like the ones we show you in today's video. These specifically in Italy are called Chatter and they cannot be absent in the celebrations of this time.

The dough is prepared in very few steps but the interesting thing here is to see how to stretch it and how to cut it, with a sprocket.

Then we will have fry them, as always in these cases, in plenty of sunflower oil. We will sprinkle a little icing sugar and… ready!

A typical Italian Carnival recipe.

Ingredients

  • The skin of a lemon (only the yellow part)
  • 75 g of sugar
  • 250 g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 30 g butter in pieces
  • 20 g of anise liqueur
  • 20 g of white wine
  • A little bit of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking yeast (Royal type)
  • Sunflower oil for frying
  • A little icing sugar

Preparation

  1. We put the lemon peel and the sugar in the glass. We program 10 seconds, speed 10. We lower with the spatula what has remained on the walls of the glass.

  2. Add the flour, the egg, the butter, the anise liqueur, the white wine, the salt and the yeast. We program 20 seconds, speed 5.

  3. We put the dough on the counter and, adding a little flour if necessary, form a ball. We wrap it in film and let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

  4. After that time we unwrap the dough and spread it with a roller until it is very thin. We divide it into rectangles and make a cut in the center of each rectangle (see video).

  5. We twist each rectangle introducing one ends through the central cut that we have made.

  6. We put abundant oil in a pan and put it on the fire. When it is hot, we fry our chiacchiere.

  7. Once fried, we remove them to a plate covered with absorbent paper.

  8. We finish our recipe by sprinkling icing sugar over them.

Notes

It is best to eat them freshly made, so that they are very crisp. But, if we have leftovers, it is advisable to keep them on a tray covered with kitchen paper.
