Russian salad

Thermomix Recipe Russian Salad

The Russian salad is one of the dishes that most reminds me of my childhood, because whenever it came the good weather my mother prepared it.

At first my sister and I had a hard time eating it, due to some ingredients that as a child seem to not enter your right eye, such as the happy red pepper, which gave my sister so many headaches. Over time it has become one of the dishes that comes out the best for my mother and it is rarely the time that we don't get together to eat that we don't ask her to surprise us with a delicious salad.

It is a dish that can be made with various ingredients and each family customize and he makes it in a different way.

It is very useful when you have several diners or it can even be made as a starter for various events. Also like can be prepared in advance it is a very practical recipe.

I particularly like it like this, letting it sit for a day. Although always very careful with mayonnaise sauce, even in this dish I better advise the lactonese that does not have an egg and so on we avoid the risk of salmonellosis.

Yesterday I made the salad. Very rich, and convenient to make, because you don't fill the kitchen with pots. Thank you girls !!!!

I'm glad, Ana. The truth is that it is very comfortable to do. A hug.

Hi, I'm new around here and I'm a novice with my thermomix, hahaha, I want to make the salad but my husband likes it to be all more mixed without pieces, the potato almost pure, I'm afraid of shredding, what do you advise? thank you girls you do an extraordinary job

    1.    Silvia said

Mari Carmen, this is like everything, you have to try to see if it comes out to your liking or your husband's. I would mash the potatoes with the thermomix, try 3 seconds speed 5, if you want a little more you see putting another second and then you put it in the varoma and follow the same recipe, or you can cook it a little more in the varoma, in such a way Make it so soft that you can undo it by squashing it with a fork when removing it from the varoma container.

thanks silvia you are a sun

      Hello
Great recipe, congratulations. With this recipe I have discovered the "wonderful world of the varoma container". I think it is better than cooking the ingredients in water, as they retain more properties.
      All the best

      1.    Silvia said

Norberto the truth that you are right, the varoma container is something that at first we hardly use and the truth is that it is a pleasure to steam food and above all that it does not lose properties as you say. We also love Russian salad.
        All the best

I invite you to try the salad by eliminating the potato and using cauliflower instead ... very good

    1.    Elena said

I'll try it, Sandra, plus I love cauliflower and my daughters too. Thank you.

Hello, I am making the salad and it turns out that the whole varoma is filled with water and it also comes out from behind, what I have done is put all the ingredients on the tray, they are a little tighter but the water no longer comes out. Is this normal that has happened to me?

    All the best

    1.    Silvia said

Concha, in the varoma some steam is always created and comes out, but I don't know very well what you mean when it comes out from behind and in which tray do you tell me that you have put it?

  5.   Sea Shell said

Silvia, the varoma is three pieces, right? The container itself, the tray and the lid. I put the ingredients without the tray, directly in the container, it is clear that I did it wrong because the water rose and ran out, when I put the tray it was when everything was done perfectly. Sorry for not explaining myself well, but nothing happens because in the end I solved it, you learn from mistakes. By the way the salad was luxurious. Thanks once again.

    1.    Elena said

I'm glad it looked good on you in the end, Concha. The truth is that in recipes we learn as we make them, but the important thing is that they are rich. All the best.

The Russian salad is one of my favorite dishes, whenever I go for tapas, it is the first one I order !! It was very easy for me to do it, once again I did it after lunch, before going back to work and we had it for dinner, my boyfriend loved it !! I had no problems with the mayonnaise, the only thing that tasted a lot like oil, because the only one I had at home was from Hojiblanca (when I go to my town my parents and my in-laws always give us a 5l bottle) and it is something stronger ! the next time I make mayonnaise, I'll try the smooth one from the mercadona! otherwise I was surprised by the recipe! Very good!

    1.    Silvia said

The oil with the mayonnaise has to be soft better, because in my family they also bring from the town and I always have soft to make it. If it is not very strong and it makes me a little bitter.
      All the best

    Hello to everyone s.
First of all congratulations, Elena and Silvia, for this wonderful space that you have created for fans of the kitchen with Thermomix.
As soon as I take a little time I will send you a recipe that I have seen that you do not have and some colleagues have left me.
I wanted to tell you that I tried to make the Russian salad and what a disaster. I don't know if the potatoes that were bad failed me or I don't know ... I had it for the 28 minutes it says and it all came out mashed. At first I thought that maybe I had spent making the potato cubes too small. Well, I'll try to redo the recipe to see what happens.
    Thank you

    1.    Silvia said

Marina, maybe it can be the potatoes in recipes like these, it depends a lot on the quality of the ingredient, still try the next time with less time and try until everything is well cooked.

  8.   Olga said

Thank you girls !! I had the potatoes dead laughing and it turned out great. I have also decided to try the lactonese and it is delicious! Very easy to do

    1.    Silvia said

Olga, I'm glad you liked it. It's been a long time since I made Russian salad, I think you've given me an idea for this weekend.

      1.    Olga said

It is that already, with the heat, it is hitting 😉

My partner has come home from work saying "I've been thinking about the salad all the way" and has thrown himself headfirst into the bowl! (It is that, for two of us, we have had a lot of money, in fact last night he asked me if I had invited a school to dinner)

  9.   Lourdes said

Great girls !!! I had never made mayonnaise in a thermo and it has turned out great and the salad won't even tell you. My dwarf has put on his boots (he is 3 years old). I will repeat it for sure !!!

    1.    Silvia said

The truth is Lourdes that it is a pleasure when we prepare something and our little ones devour it. I'm glad you liked them.
      All the best

Can I make some migas from La Mancha and at the same time the Russian salad ???

    1.    Mayra Fernandez Joglar said

      Hello Girl:

To cook the salad vegetables in the varoma you will need to have enough liquid in the glass that, when heated, makes enough steam.

With the recipe for migas from La Mancha you will not have enough liquids but you can make them with other recipes, for example if you have a vegetable cream.

      Regards!!

    2.    Irene Arcas said

Hello Nina, I don't think so because the crumbs don't have a broth to evaporate… but you can make some lentils for example: http://www.thermorecetas.com/lentejas-con-chorizo-morcilla-y-panceta/ To do something to the varoma or in the basket you need to have liquid that generates steam ... 🙂

  11.   Iris said

    Good !!!
I would be interested in the recipe for the crumbs, thank you!

    1.    Irene Arcas said

Hello Iris, here is the recipe for traditional crumbs - http://www.thermorecetas.com/migas-con-chorizo-y-uvas/

I hope you like them 🙂

Soon we are going to publish a recipe for crumbs with a touch of very tasty and original spices. A hug and thanks for writing us!
