Throat candy

Who wants a throat candy? With the cold that is making it normal for us to have cold, flu, or sore throat. So one of these homemade caramelitos will be great for us.

They are not miraculous because they will not cure our illness, although thanks to their natural ingredients, they manage to soften our throat and not itch us so much. 

They are made with sugar, cinnamon, ginger, honey and lemon, so you can already imagine that our cough drops are addicted. We can keep them in small cans or a glass jar and they are a gourmet gift that no one will reject.

    The whole sugar to use is brown sugar or panela?
    Could they be put to solidify in ice cube molds, and then coated or not coated in icing sugar?

      Hello Mercedes:
      You can use both although I personally don't trust most of the brown sugar sold in supermarkets. This is why I use whole sugar.

      On the other hand, you cannot do without icing sugar because otherwise the caramel will stick to you. And if you use molds remember that you have to sprinkle them before because the same thing will happen to you.

      In reality, the amount of sugar that sticks is minimal, especially if at the end you move them well through the sieve.

      Sometimes it happens ... the temperature or humidity in the environment also influences.
      Try this: put them in a jar, sprinkle some icing sugar, shake and they will be perfect!

      When pouring them over the icing sugar, you have to be quick and precise. Keep in mind that when the time is up you will have a liquid mixture but as the seconds go by it will thicken and it will be increasingly difficult. So I recommend having everything ready for, just beep the machine, pour it over the sugar and let it rest.

        The problem is that as soon as I finished, I opened the machine and they were like earthy globs. I made them anyway and have them in a glass jar. They are not pretty like yours, but they are very rich. I think it's because I used brown sugar.

      At the moment I have not doubled the quantities because the caramel is very particular. What I do is do 2 batches and that's it!

    When I have finished making them I have put them in a glass jar and after a while I have gone to get one and they were almost all waste it looked like a paste, I have let them rest for half an hour in the sugar and then I have put them in the jar, now I have them in the fridge but I think they won't be fixed, what have I done wrong? ?

      Hello Maria:

      You have to let them sit for a while until the texture becomes harder. And in no case keep them hot.

      Sometimes with humidity or temperature the texture changes. Against that we can not do anything, so we can only resign ourselves!

      Mine aren't hard at all, either. I have put them in a glass jar with a little sugar so that they do not stick to each other and they are fantastic. They do not fall apart, they are loose and ready to eat at any time.

    Hello, I have made them and in principle they were solidifying, after 30min I touched them and they were still soft, I have sprinkled them with glass sugar but nothing… .I left them overnight and in the morning they were melted… .what could have happened ?
