Can you freeze the mash de vegetables?

Yes, definitely yes. Many times we think that since potatoes or rice do not freeze very well, if we include them in creams or vegetable purees they cannot be frozen. However, in a vegetable puree, the proportion of potato or rice is minimal (for example, 10%) of all the puree, and therefore, can be frozen perfectly. However, if we are exclusively preparing a mashed potato, in this case, it could not be frozen since the percentage of potato in this case would be close to 60%.

When we defrost it we must leave it in the fridge 24 hours before consuming it and then we must heat it up enough so that it takes on a good texture again. This is very important. We can do it in three ways:

  • At microwave oven heating it at maximum power for 2 minutes (depending on the amount of puree that we are heating, this time will be more or less) and stirring with a fork vigorously when 1 minute has passed and when we remove it.
  • With a saucepan on the fire, stirring constantly until it smokes.
  • In the Thermomix heating it from 4 to 8 minutes (depending on the amount of puree), temperature 90º, speed 3.

Once thawed, it can no longer be frozen again.

Mashed potatoes de vegetables light and purees to lose weight

Vegetable purees are a good allies in light diets and slimming. With the Thermomix unique textures are achieved, so we can use the ingredients we need so that our vegetable puree is compatible with low-calorie diets. It admits any type of vegetables and homemade chicken, fish or vegetable broths and as an accompaniment we can use tofu or vegetable chips.

For lower the amount of salt in the purees, we can use spices or lime / lemon juice to further enhance the flavors.

Mashed potatoes de vegetables home

Thanks to the Thermomix we can prepare any type of cream o mashed vegetables that we imagine and all with homemade and natural ingredients. In just 20-30 minutes we will have our puree ready.

It is also a good opportunity to make a recipe for use and spend any vegetables that we have in the fridge that we have left over from another preparation or from which we have surplus.

Mashed potatoes de vegetables no potatoes

If we want do without the potato in a vegetable pureeTo give it more body, we must reduce the amount of liquid a little, add cream cheese or, if our diet allows it, use other thickening ingredients such as rice or cornstarch.

Vegetable puree from meat and fish

Children's puree with lettuce and hake

We can take advantage of the puree to include other foods that children find it more difficult to eat, such as meat (pork, beef or chicken) or fish, which may have a texture that is difficult to chew like meat or the smell or taste is not to your liking as is the case with fish.

In this case, we could add pieces of meat or fish, similar in size to vegetables, while cooking the vegetables with the broth. When the cooking time is over, we simply mash it all for 1 minute or 1:30 minutes at speed 10.

Of course we can freeze it later. Here are some examples of vegetable puree with meat or fish:

How to take advantage of varoma to make vegetable puree

One of the great advantages of the Thermomix is that it has 4 individual containers that allow us to cook several dishes at the same time, saving energy and time:

  • The glass, where we will cook something that generates steam (water, lentil stew, vegetables with broth ...)
  • El basket, where we can put accompanying ingredients such as rice or pasta
  • Varoma container, which, being deep, allows us to put vegetables like potatoes, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot... but also some eggs wrapped in transparent film to have them cooked and used in salads, stuffing or simply as a hard-boiled egg.
  • Varoma tray, Where we can put meat or fish fillets wrapped in paper foil type papillote or in transparent film to be able to consume them later as we like.

Vegetable puree for babies with Thermomix

A perfect option when our baby begins to take new foods such as vegetables, meat and fish is to prepare purees with our Thermomix. The little ones start at 6 months to eat food such as vegetables, so with our robot we can prepare countless purees and baby food and store them in small jars as individual portions and freeze them. So we will always have healthy and homemade food ready for them. Here we leave you a good selection of recipes for children 6 months to 1 year.

Triple baby food

Triple baby food

A great trick is to take the opportunity to cook a good variety of vegetables in the glass and use the varoma container to cook different types of meat and fish individually wrapped in plastic wrap. In this way, we can crush a part of the vegetables with the ingredient that we select is meat or fish and thus make individual purees or baby food.

We leave you this triple potito recipe for babies for the TM5 that works wonderfully (remember that if you are going to do it with the TM31 or TM21 you must reduce the amounts by ¼) since those glasses have less capacity.

And it is also very important that you wrap in transparent film each piece of meat and fish individually so that there is no contamination of some ingredients to others, or mixing of flavors.

We also leave you the indications for vacuum pack the fruit jars (be careful, only fruit, since meat, vegetables or fish would not be safe) very very useful to have in the pantry:

Hello, does spinach have to be fresh or can it be frozen? If it is the latter, does the cooking time vary? . Thanks

    1.    Ana Valdes said

Hi Clara, you can put them frozen, but don't put them at the beginning. Add them in step 4 and put 18 minutes instead of 15, as it will take longer to reach 100º. A hug!

Hi there! I have a question, why do you have to let the temperature drop to mash the puree?

    1.    Irene Arcas said

Hi Maria, it's for security reasons. The Thermomix will not reach 10.000 revolutions of speed 10 if the content is at 100º because a splash at that temperature can be dangerous. 🙂
